Minnal was inspired from a type specimen found during our type walk taken by

Minnal was inspired from a type specimen found during our type walk taken by Tarun Deep Girdher in the old city of Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad's old city is a visual treat for any graphic designer because shops still have beautifully hand painted signboards adding to the rich visual culture of the city.

Our first step was to understand the visual language. Our type specimen wasn't 'just' mono-linear and condensed, we also noticed how the angles were mostly 90 degrees which largely contributed to the visual language.

We found that printing drafts and examining them in smaller sizes on paper was crucial. It's surprising how things that seem fine on a screen might need adjustments when printed or viewed at a smaller scale. We made optical corrections based on these print-outs, focusing on details like spacing and thickness to enhance readability and appearance. It taught us to assess the font in various contexts, ensuring that even subtle nuances didn't go unnoticed, ultimately refining it for better performance across different mediums and sizes.
